The Art of Machine
Custom Build Challenge

Is now open for applications!

The rules are simple, build and drag race the ultimate custom machine. It will be exhibited in The Art of Machine concourse exhibition of custom/rare motorcycles in the heart of The Malle Mile, then entered into The Art of Sprint drag race on the Saturday night of the festival.

A distinguished jury of world-class custom builders and press will select the category winners and the overall winner,  with incredible prizes for the winning machine(s).

Open to all machines considered custom, handmade, rare, classic, and in true Malle Mile style—the wilder and the more inappropriate the better! Dream, sketch, build, finish, or polish your custom motorcycle project for the Mile.

All approved entrants will be invited to exhibit in The Art of Machine Concourse Exhibition at the castle.

THIS YEAR WE’RE AGAIN OFFERING LUXURY BELLE TENT ACCOMMODATION, SO YOU CAN ARRIVE WITH JUST YOUR MOTORCYCLE AND A TOOTHBRUSH. THERE ARE 2 OPTIONS FOR 2-6 PEOPLE, THE LUXURY BELLE TENT AND THE MILE PALACE BELLE TENT, FOR THOSE THAT REALLY NEED TO CONVINCE THEIR OTHER-HALVES THAT CAMPING CAN BE VERY CIVILISED.

THE MINI MILE

The Mile also hosts the ‘Mini-Mile’ a dedicated training area for our very young riders. Open on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, it’s a safe sheltered area for kids to practice on a small and fun circuit, on their balance, pedal or small motorised bikes. Then there is a dedicated race for the daring Mini-Milers in your life on the Hill Climb. Children 8 years & under can race balance bikes, scooters or pretty much anything with wheels up the grass Hill Climb in the lunch break on Saturday and Sunday. Fully supervised by the Malle Marshall Dream Team.

The Mile is a celebration of the motorcycle in all its forms, with a non-stop programme of very inappropriate racing. A celebration of the British summertime, the motorcycle culture, with world class bands and live music from the Main Stage, the Expedition Exhibition, The Art Of Machine art show, brand exhibitions and the now legendary Mile After-Party.

After 6 years in London a new home for The Mile with larger grounds for all of our guests was inevitable and we can’t wait to host the 2024 MALLE Mile again at the uniquely beautiful Grimsthorpe Castle and their 6000 acres of stunning grounds. The deer park and ancient oak forests will play host to The Mile in 2024 and beyond. Grimsthorpe Castle is located exactly 100 miles North of London and in the centre of Great Britain, leading The Mile pilgrimage to the heart and centre of the country.

As ever, each year we strive to push The Mile further than ever before, to this end we’re introducing new races and new race classes for 2024, ensuring a lot more racing action, less time in the pits, more parties, more exhibitions, more music, fun and a lot more motorcycles! This year 1000+ motorcycles will race in our series of inappropriate races over The Mile festival weekend – and since the very first year our ethos has not changed; everyone is invited to join and race anything on 2+ wheels and no one is expected to win.

The Malle family and our team of dedicated Malle Marshalls will be putting their heart and soul into hosting the festival and we can’t wait for the first race flag to drop. We want to thank our amazing community of riders, our supporting brands, encourageable friends, family and volunteers for making The Mile what it has become over the years – The Mile is yours, Viva La Mile!

The Best Yet!

As ever, we strive to ensure The Malle Mile festival experience is accessible to all riders and budgets, with a variety of ticket types and in 2025 we’ve included discounted tickets for younger riders and discounted group spectator tickets. Every year we reach out to our community and seek feedback on their Mile experience, so we can deliver the greatest, wildest, safest, the most exciting, beautiful and stream-lined festival experience.

Based on our vision and the feedback from our community over the past few Malle Miles, we knew we needed to invest heavily into the best medical teams, the best security teams, a lot more festival production staff, marshals, more infrastructure, more facilities, parking consultants, staff facilities, greater acts, artists etc. to deliver the greatest Mile experience yet. This level of experience costs dramatically more than in the early years and reflects the slight increase in some tickets. The UK government has increased many costs for festival producers over the last 3 years, especially fuel and increased costs for staffing and taxes. Each year we create greater motorcycle experiences at The Mile, especially for our riders, to ensure we deliver these experiences safely for all of our wonderful guests, we need to invest into the highest level of production and support for all riders across the 3 day festival.

Who is Malle?

Malle London is a family company that was started in 2014 by two ‘designers/ cousins/motorcycle-disciples’ Robert Nightingale & Jonny Cazzola.

After a decade of working in the design, engineering and innovation space and after many trans-continental motorcycle adventures; they decided to set out to create more robust and British utilitarian Adventure Accessories – to enable motorcyclists and adventurers to go further and in-turn inspiring them to appreciate and travel the world more.

In 2015 Malle hosted ‘The Malle Mile’ in London, an intimate and inappropriate motorcycle race which has grown organically every year and has been a sold out event for the last 3 years.

In 2017 they hosted ‘The Great Malle Rally‘, the longest inappropriate motorcycle rally ever attempted in great Britain. Exploring over 1500 miles from the northern tip to the southern tip with 100 custom/classic/cafe motorcycles. In 2020 they hosted the first ever ‘Mile Beach Race’ Sprint on Margate Sands.

Then in 2022, they hosted ‘The Great Malle Mountain Rally’ the longest motorcycle rally ever attempted across the entirety of the Alps. 6 countries in 6 days from Austria to Monaco. Always pushing boundaries, expect to see new motorcycle adventures, rallies and celebrations happening in Britain, Europe and beyond.

PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT – ONE BIKE & ONE TREE AT A TIME.

For all Malle events, including The Malle Mile, The Mile Beach Race and The Great Malle Rally, we aim to be plastic free, providing stainless steel water bottles and non-plastic solutions etc. for all riders. We are also working with ‘The International Tree Foundation’ to plant a tree for every rider who enters The Mile races – with an aim to plant a minimum of another 2000 trees each year – off setting and locking away carbon and protecting the global environment. So far we have planted 8915 trees, a modest forest!

CHARITY BENEFIT PARTNER – TWO WHEELS FOR LIFE

The Malle team are delighted to announce our partnership with Two Wheels For Life. For three decades they and their sister organisation Riders for Health have ensured local health professionals can use motorcycles to reach the remotest parts of Africa where other vehicles simply cannot reach. By providing appropriate motorcycles as well as ongoing maintenance, training, digital data collection and access to fuel, health professionals are now able to reliably and efficiently deliver medicine and other services to over 47 million people. We are in awe of their work and the way in which they use the humble motorcycle as a conduit for good, improving healthcare and life across Africa.
