With over 1100 motorcycles racing last year, you can be sure to see everything from rare antique race bikes, super charged lawnmowers, land speed record holders to lightweight custom dirt bikes, souped up and stripped to within millimetres of their functional life. Each hand crafted machine embodies the goal to try and cross one of The Malle Mile race track finish lines before, or at least more entertainingly, than the racer(s) you’re pitched against.
As the number of race entries has grown over the years, so has the amount of races and classes, introducing different race challenges spanning almost all areas of the Grimsthorpe Estate and with this growth comes more and more creative approaches to motorcycle building, aspiring to snag the ‘Man of The Mile’ title.
To celebrate these unique pieces of art, at The Malle Mile in 2024, we introduced our first ever ‘Custom Build Challenge’ where members of the Malle community are invited to submit their custom, hand built, rare or classic machine for a chance to win an honourable place in ‘The Custom Build Challenge Concourse Exhibition’ in the esteemed Grimsthorpe Castle courtyard. But there is a condition – all entries must race in The Art of Sprint Race on the Castle approach.

We barely whispered the idea through our channels and the Malle inboxes were flooded with some of the most unique and beautifully creative machines imaginable. The selection was difficult, but the panel of esteemed judges featuring Calum from deBolex, Wes from BikeEXIF, Paul from Ziggy Moto, Charlie from Stockwell Customs and photographer Amy Shore, were able to select 60 exhibits for the 2024 exhibition.
The brief for The Custom Build Challenge is simple, build and drag race the ultimate custom Malle machine. Get creative and interpret that how you will!
Congratulations to all of the entries for your hard work, hours of work and dedication to this unique craft. We cant wait to see what future years bring.

The Art of Sprint Race
The only condition of The Custom Build Challenge is that all entries are expected to run their custom machine up the castle approach in The Art of Sprint Race at The Malle Mile Festival on the Saturday evening.
This unique 1km tarmac race is hosted on the grand entrance approach in front of the main castle gates. The Art of Sprint is a knock out race, where racers compete two at a time, reaching speeds of 150mph+ on the private Castle Driveway. Machines are paired like for like and race head to head through a series of hearts, with only the winner returning to the start line, until there is only one machine remaining. The final rider is crowned the winner of The Art of Sprint Race for that year at The Malle Mile Festival. It’s one of the most prestigious races to grace the grounds of The Malle Mile to date.
We cant wait to receive this years entries and welcome the winners into this years exhibition and race.
